Huron River Greenway Page

Open (nearly) All The Way!

The entire Greenway, from DuPont Marsh, across Mason Road and from the foot of Main Street in Milan is now open. Only the barricaded portion between Mason road and the Ohio Turnpike bridge is still closed. It is still in good shape, if not a little overgrown, after two-plus years of closure. If you are out on the trail and see any problems with trail conditions; please report these to Erie MetroParks as soon as possible. You can also pitch in while walking the trail by removing any fallen branches or litter. Leave it BETTER than you found it! Join the Friends of Erie MetroParks to become a volunteer for the Greenway and other EMP facilities.

Thank You to Erie MetroParks and their staff for all their efforts to support the Greenway. Now, let's get the rest of it opened.

The Huron River Greenway is OPEN again!

The Huron River Greenway, as it was prior to its temporary closure in 2007, has been re-opened. Come on out and visit the Greenway!

THE PORTION OF THE TRAIL (south of Mason Road) THAT IS BLOCKED BY BARRIERS IS STILL PRIVATE PROPERTY. It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that trail users DO NOT ENTER this area. Trail users seen anywhere between the barriers can expect being called in to law enforcement. Be a good neighbor and perhaps this property owner will be moved to allow access in the future. Also, DO NOT park in front of the warehouse building at the bottom of the Main Street hill in Milan (to the right of the trail entrance). You may be ticketed or towed. Park near the yellow HURON RIVER GREENWAY sign, or on the Milan Square and walk/bike down the hill.

If you able to observe -anyone- damaging Park property or physically attempting to block the trail by any means other than the park-controlled gates; please inform Erie MetroParks rangers at 419-621-4220 (M-F, 8AM to 5PM) or 419-625-7951 at all other times, or the Erie County Sheriff at 419-625-7951. Use 911 for emergencies only.

Anyone who decides to dig holes in the trail surface, dismantle structures, etc., is still damaging park facilities as much as if it were done to any other Erie MetroParks area.

Please consider a generous donation in the name of the Huron River Greenway to either Erie MetroParks or the Friends of Erie MetroParks (a "501-C3" non-profit organization supporting all Erie MetroParks facilities). Consider joining the Friends.
